What is the cost of an Asbestos Survey?

Legally no , the seller of a property if only required to declare asbestos they are aware of within the property. They do not have to provide an asbestos survey.

Yes! There is no law against selling a home which contains asbestos , so long as you declare the asbestos to potential buyers.

What is the Cost of Asbestos Testing?

The current cost of asbestos testing with Surv-Tec is £105-125 for the initial visit (includes one sample removal and testing) , then £25 per sample thereafter.
These prices include UKAS accredited Laboratory Results and VAT

Can you sample Artex?

Yes we can , there are many materials which we can carrying out sample testing on such as Artex , Loft Insulation , Cement Boards , Lagging etc

We can yes! If you provide us with the details of the material type and location of the material we can take samples to be analysed for asbestos.

Are DIY Asbestos Testing Kits Reliable?

So , if you take the sample properly , with no cross contamination and a UKAS lab is used to analyse the results then yes they can be reliable. However , many homeowners are unsure how to take a sample correctly or end up with cross contamination of the material , this results in incorrect results. What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral which was mined to use in building materials.

How many types of Asbestos are there?

There are 3 types of common asbestos which were used in building materials in the UK. These are:
Chrysotile (White Asbestos)
Amosite (Brown Asbestos)
Crocidolite (Blue Asbestos)

What age property can contain asbestos?

Any property which was built before the year 2000 could contain asbestos.
Asbestos was banned in 1999 , therefore to take into account use of surplus stock , it is suggested to include properties which were built within the year 2000.

Where can asbestos be found in homes?

Asbestos can be found within many materials in the home , including (but not limited to) :

Is Asbestos visible in the air?

When asbestos fibres are disturbed , they float into the air , but the fibres are so small they cannot be seen with the naked eye. This is what makes the removal / disturbance of asbestos so dangerous.

Can I live in a home with Asbestos?

Yes , so long as the asbestos is in good condition and is not showing any signs of deterioration. As soon as asbestos is disturbed , this is when it is at it's most dangerous because the fibres will be released and can be inhaled. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can cause health issues.
